this picture reminds me of being on my boat, at anchor in a peaceful cove...
Rembrandt does beautiful things with light. The funny thing is that in my memory of this picture, the philosopher's image was much bigger and in the foreground, while the staircase was smaller and in the background. And I don't remember the fellow tending the fire at all.
Still, I agree; the warm and peaceful feeling of this picture is what spoke to me.
